NEW DELHI: The $3.7-Euro German car parts major Websato will be setting up a new factory in India as business for sunroofs grows rapidly amidst a revival in the passenger vehicles market.
The company will invest Rs 250 crore for the new manufacturing facility that will come up at Pune, catering to models meant for sale in India as well as for exports.
"Webasto has been located in the Pune region for around a decade. With the new facility, we are extending our capacity to manufacturing of roof systems while also establishing a testing center in the country," Vikas Prasad, president & MD of Webasto India, said.
The company said that demand for sunroofs remains strong in India, and it will be hiring engineers in line with factory expansion. "From 2021, Webasto India will manufacture roofs for some recently-acquired Indian projects at the new plant. New projects will also be serviced by the same facility."
Joerg Sandmann, president of the company's Asia-Pacific region, said the new investments would be completed over the next three years, adding that the company plans to introduce new technologies and innovative products in roofing systems.
