Vikram Solar inaugurates 1.3-GW module manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: Vikram Solar, Kolkata-based solar module manufacturer, on Tuesday said it has inaugurated a 1.3 gigawatt (GW) solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing unit at Indospace Industrial Park, Oragadam, Tamil Nadu.

The company added that with this unit, its module manufacturing capacity has reached 2.5 GW, which is currently the largest in India.

“We believe that the exponential demand surge for solar energy coupled with a clarion call globally to diversify trade markets and supply chain presents a huge opportunity for indigenous solar manufacturing,” said Gyanesh Chaudhary, Managing Director, Vikram Solar.

He added that the new facility would bridge the demand-supply gap for modules, propel innovation, and create about 1,000 jobs.

The company said that this would also act as a research and development platform for next-generation module technology.

“We have implemented digital production display boards, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence enabled inspection for zero defect amongst various such emerging technologies,” it added.

The solar firm has shipped over 3.5 GW solar modules globally and also has a 1.2-GW manufacturing facility in Falta, West Bengal.
